“Halcyon” is a Cape Cutter 19, built near Cape Town, South Africa in July 2003.

She is a white boat- there are only 3 others I believe in existence, “Zest” (Hull 28), Sarabella, (Hull 46) and Zephyr (Hull 47).

“Halcyon” has been with the same owner from new and was picked up from Bursledon in Hampshire.

She still has all the original paperwork and was handed over by Nick and Lyndsay Voorhoeve from Cape Yachts personally and was rigged up for the first time there.

It was during rigging up that I had a phone call from the late Bob Brown from Honnor Marine saying that he had bought the rights to build the Cape Cutter 19 in the UK at Rochdale. Honnor Marine built the Cape Cutter 19 in Rochdale from 2003-2018. Bob Brown was an enthusiast for the boat since he took over production in the UK. The batton has now been passed to Nick at Cape Cutter Yachts (see www.capecutter19.com)

You might wonder why “Halcyon” is here under “Inspiration19.com”? (although you may have come here via another domain!)

This was the original class name.

When Halcyon’s sibling “Quest” was bought over and displayed at the Southampton Boat Show in 2001 the class name changed to the name “Cape Cutter 19” due to the designer and builder’s association with Cape Town and the Cape of Good Hope.

Her maiden voyage was from Arisaig, just south of Mallaig. She sailed over to the Isle of Skye and over to Eigg. Since then she has spent a lot of happy times sailing in Scotland.

She has travelled widely, look in my “Galleries” section which shows some of the places I have been.

I was responsible for starting the Cape Cutter 19 Association and ran the web site from conception until 2013, wrote the majority of the original content and designed the forum. This has now been taken over by a Virtual Committee.

Have a look at the new Cape Cutter 19 Association web site. There are many pictures of “Halcyon’s” siblings there and an excellent Forum.

I also started the original Yahoo Group in 2002 prior to getting “Halcyon” in 2003.

This site is also dedicated to my long suffering wife Cathy who has had to put up with me and my boats ever since we met. My first boat was a wooden Drascombe Lugger (1988).

I originally learned to sail while I was at the College of Nautical Studies, Warsash, Southampton (1979-1981) when I was assigned there as a Marine Engineering Cadet with Ellerman Lines.
